Black Lake is located in Presque Isle County in northeast Lower Michigan. This 10,000-acre lake is six miles long and over 3 miles wide. Onaway State Park is located on the southeast shore of the lake. The park contains picturesque cobblestone beaches, unique rock formations and a variety of trees and wildlife. You will find several miles of nature trails in the park for hiking, and Black Lake is well known for their fishing and boating. The lake supports a variety of game fish, including walleyes, yellow perch, small and largemouth bass, northern pike, sturgeon, rock bass and brook trout. Black Lake hosts the annual Sturgeon Shivaree in February, a festival that features ice fishing and snowmobile racing. Camping is permitted at the lake where you’ll find 100 campsites with electric hook-ups and firepits. The highest waterfalls in lower Michigan are only 10 miles east of the park, and 15 miles south are a variety of natural sinkholes. The park is approximately 45 miles from the Old Mill Creek Saw Mill and Fort Michilimackinac, a completely restored 1700s community, and Mackinaw Island.
